Same story, different words

As of today there is a new story in the media about a Senior Justice Department Official who has allegedly sexually assaulted and harassed female employees. Not much information has been released about the individuals involved but recently news articles about sexual assault have started to become more and more common. In 2018 sharing assault stories has become more of a relevant topic and people are beginning to care and try and make a difference.

In the following blog I will use two different articles about the same story and contrast the way each media source displays the content of the story. I used Buzzfeed News and NBC News and from the start both titles are fairly the same including ethos and being very straight forward of what the article is about. 

Starting with the Buzzfeed article, they include a lot of ethos in their writing because most of their information is delivered in quotes from public release statements or through the Department of Justices' spokesman. This article is considerably longer than the NBC news article and that is because the NBC news has no direct quotes rather it was very straight forward with no ethos through quotes to be seen. The Buzzfeed article also uses logos by going into past history of the Department of Justice cases where its workers had assaulted fellow workers, this is logos because it uses logic to show its happened before and it's possible to happen again.

After reading both articles I found they both conveyed the same message even though the authors were different. While the topic may not be very controversial I thought before I clicked on the article that each media source would provide its own view on the topic, I had my own opinion after reading the two articles but I was just surprised that the two articles weren't constructed as differently as I had anticipated. The story is still new so maybe later on there will be more discussion over the topic with differently constructed wording.
