Midriff's and Mook's Today

In the film Merchants of Cool they explain to us what a midriff is and a mook. The two are virtually opposites of one another. A midriff is a young girl who tries to look older and act more mature. Whereas a mook is a boy stuck in adolescence and doesn't care what others think of him. Even though the film is over 10 years old both these concepts are still true. I scroll through Instagram and see girls my age dressing like their 20 and I'll see boys posting foolish videos of themselves. While I know this isn't the case for all teenagers, with so much of it being displayed for the world to see online most teens can't help but follow the trends set my the popular influencers of our generation.
For example Loren Gray is 16 and has 15.2 million followers and is a perfect example of a midriff in toady's generation. She uses makeup to make herself look older and her mannerisms suggest she's older than her real age. She keeps up her reputation of being older than what she actually is and the many young girls that follow her want to be like her so they do the same thing.

On the other hand a perfect example of a mook would be Patrick Wallace who's better known as Supremepatty. He is 21 years old and has 6.2 million followers. He does foolish things to gain attention, his most popular videos are him squeezing lemon and lime into his eyes. He has a popular saying, "Lemon and lime calls for a great time." and in his videos it's clear he has not left the stupidity of childhood behind. People follow him more so for the entertainment of watching his videos rather than copying him.
Media then is still similar to what we have now. The only difference now is that we have the technology to share these facades quicker. Resulting in the spread of more midriffs and mooks.
